A few basic tips for new WIM users:

1. When reading an image file please make sure that you select the proper
file format in the "Files of type:" box, e.g. for HDF images select HDF, etc. Sounds easy but this is
often a problem for first-time users. The next time you try to open an image
the last image type is already selected for you.

2. If the expected files do not show up in the file selection window, you
must remember that WIM looks for files according to their extensions.
As the default for Microsoft Windows is to hide the file extensions (the dumbest
move that Microsoft has ever made!) you may not even know what your file
extensions are. As a first step, you can see all the files in the selected folder
by typing "*.*" as the filename mask in the "File name" box. If your image files
have specific extensions then you can add them to the default file extensions
by editing "View-Settings-Extensions" from the menu.

3. It is useful to have the "List of images" window open. Just make sure that
the "View-Image List" is selected from the menu.

It may be a matter of choice but I always prefer to load images not by the "File Open" dialog in WIM but just by clicking (or double-clicking, depending on your settings) on the filename in Windows.

The full version of WIM (delivered on a CD) includes high-resolution global databases (coastlines, political boundaries,
rivers, bathymetry) and additional software components, e.g. for accessing the NOAA/AVHRR Level-1B files.

If you are serious about working with satellite images then you should definitely consider the WIM Automation Module (WAM) that allows
to process hundreds of images with a single command  or a few mouse clicks. WIM is an interactive, menu-driven program, WAM is tool running complex scripts of for applying a set of operations to many images.
WAM is based on the newly released Microsoft .NET Framework. You can write your own WAM scripts or use many of the existing WAM programs.

These animated gifs can be produced with WAM in a couple of minutes.
WAM is sold separately from WIM.
